Mayor Corner-April Echoes

As Mayor of our beautiful and peaceful city, I continue to strive to work cooperatively with the City Council and everyone for the benefit of our community.  I care about what happens and my door is always open. If you would like to make an appointment to see me, feel free to make an appointment with my executive assistant, Liza Montiel at 520.287.6571 or email at lmontiel@nogalesaz.gov

The Office of Mayor Garino continues to provide the community with updates on several ongoing projects and activities they are involved or are currently working on.

1.     The Butterfly Art Contest was an event sponsored by the City of Nogales.  has been a big success! On behalf of the City Council and myself, I would like to thank the following school districts for their participation;  NUSD #1, Mexicayotl, Sacred Heart and Lourdes Academy. The 6th grade students submitted beautiful and creative butterflies made from recycled materials for display at Karam Park on March 20.

2.    Various Street Improvement Projects around the city have begun and will continue throughout the year.  The city employees are busy paving and cleaning-up streets in an effort to make Nogales a safer and cleaner city.

3.    Daniel Hernandez, Arizona House of Representative from District 2, visited city hall on February 15th to support our efforts in removing the concertina wire that has been placed from the ground up.  As mayor, I will continue to express my opposition to the concertina wire directly located in major residential and pedestrian areas which raises serious concerns about the safety protocol. I would like to thank the City of Tucson, City of Bisbee and SEAGO for their gesture of solidarity and approving a Resolution.  Lastly, thank you to Congressman Raul Grijalva for expressing his opposition to the concertina wire by authoring a letter to U.S. Secretary Nielson and Acting Secretary Shanahan.

4.    The City Council Members, City Manager and City Department Officials attended an all-day retreat and orientation update on Strategic Planning Process.
