Walking to Magdalena: an O’odham Pilgrimage

The Consulate General of Mexico hosted their opening ceremony of the photographic exhibition “Walking to Magdalena: an O’odham Pilgrimage by Maeve Hickey on Thursday, March 1st, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the consulate at 135 W. Cardwell. The exhibit was in celebration of the 5-day pilgrimage by members of the Tohono O’odham Nation from San Miguel who crossed the reservation to the Chapel of San Francisco in Magdalena, Sonora.

The event was attended by public dignitaries Ricardo Pineda, Consul of Mexico in Tucson, Arizona; Tom Murphy, Mayor of the Town of Sahuarita, Arizona; John Doyle, Mayor of Nogales, Arizona; Cuauhtémoc Galindo, Mayor of Nogales, Sonora and Ricardo Santana, Consul General of Mexico in Nogales, Arizona. The ceremony was well attended by the public where attendees enjoyed food, drinks, and music by the talented trio of Jazmín Benítez, Kevin Benítez, and Rosario Benítez.   

The photographic exhibit opening ceremony was one of the many events the Mexican Consulate in Nogales hosted for the month of March to highlight Semana de la Mujer or Women’s Week to celebrate International Women’s Day.
