Fiestas de Mayo brings community together

2012 Fiestas de Mayo was held in Nogales at the Pierson Vocation High School field this past May 5, 2012. The celebration featured a parade and continued with the festival that featured live entertainment, food and concluded with the crowning of the Fiestas the Mayo Queen. The event was free of charge and invited local families to attend and participate.
The live entertainment featured Maria Bonita, Los Bebechones del Norte, Folkorico Dancers, Mariachi Bands and a performance by Manuel Navarro of Luna Eterna Productions. The celebration concluded with the crowning of Fiesta de Mayo queen who was Nogales High School student Alexandra Itule.
On hand for the event was Mexican Consul General Jaime Paz y Puente; Nogales, Sonora Mayor Jose Angel Hernandez; Nogales Councilman Joe Diaz and Councilwoman Esther Melendez-Lopez.
The Mexican Consulate, the City of Nogales, Cultural Arts Committee, NUSD, Border Eco and the Nogales International sponsored the event.
