The City of Nogales inaugurated Hohokam Soccer Field this past March 2013. The field is located east of Fleischer Park and should attract more physical activity in Santa Cruz County. Many community figures were in attendance at the event, which included SCC Attorney George Silva, SCC Recorder Suzie Sainz, SCC Sheriff Tony Estrada, NFD Chief Hector Robles, City Councilmen Cesar Parada, Joe Diaz, Joe Acosta and many more.
“We started this field about 11 years ago, we conducted an analysis of the site with the University of Arizona because of the Hohokam settlement located near by but we concluded it was safe to continue with construction,” said City of Nogales Mayor Arturo Garino. “After various administrations I made it a priority as mayor to complete the field,” said Garino.
“The second phase is to complete bathrooms, grills, bleachers, ramada’s and a concession stand,” added Garino. “On April 20th we will begin construction of a switch back trail that will lead down to the baseball fields that will have exercise stations,” Garino continued. “Families will love the new facilities, their will be action here and a new beginning for the park,” concluded Garino.
