Nogales, AZ—The City of Nogales is proud to announce that Mr. Derek Arnson has been hired and sworn in as the new Chief of Police. Chief Arnson will begin work immediately. “I am thrilled to be a part of the City of Nogales team,” stated Chief Arnson. “I look forward to having a positive impact on the community and its many residents and businesses as we promote safety in Nogales.” Chief Arnson, who is bilingual in Spanish and English, comes to Nogales with an extensive amount of experience and leadership in Arizona law enforcement. He has served as Chief of Police for the Gila River Indian Community and has held other leadership roles in the Arizona Department of Public Safety, which included two years in the Governor’s Protection Detail. Chief Arnson possesses a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Spanish from Northern Arizona University, a Masters Degree in Education, and will soon complete a second Masters Degree in Security Studies from the United States Naval Post Graduate School in Monterrey, California. “Chief Arnson will be an excellent asset to the City’s senior leadership team,” stated City Manager Shane Dille. “I look forward to working with Chief Arnson and the rest of the Nogales Police Department staff as we work to keep Nogales a great place to live, work, and play.” Chief Arnson was sworn into his new office by City Magistrate Mayra Galindo at a ceremony at the Nogales City Council chambers on November 5, 2012. Chief Arnson was accompanied by Nogales Mayor Garino, members of the Nogales City Council, Nogales Police Department command staff, City Manager Shane Dille, other city staff, and personal friends and family.
