On October 25, 1882 the rail linking the United States and Mexico was completed.
A large crowd gathered for the event. Two flag bearing, diamond stacked locomotives
faced each other and touched cow catchers at the border just after the final silver spike was driven on the tie, amid cheers and toasts that forever linked the west coast of Mexico and beyond to the entire United States.
