“Fiestas Patrias,” was celebrated on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Fleischer park in Nogales, AZ., with a great attendance from the local community. The celebration commemorates Mexico’s anniversary of its independence from Spanish rule.
The celebration began at 6pm. with a variety of musical groups as well as other entertainment such as Rob Lob from Hermosillo, Sonora, MX., NHS Mariachi Apache, Ballet Folkorico, Bebechones and many more performers. The celebration also included a presentation of the Fiesta Queens, and an re-enactment ceremony of the “Grito de Dolores” with the Nogales, Sonora fire department honor guard and the Mexican Consul General Jaime Paz Y Puente. Many local politicians were in attendence including City of Nogales Mayor Arturo Garino, Council woman Esther Lopez Melendez, Councilmen Joe Diaz, Nubar Hanessian and County Supervisor Rudy “Bugs” Molera. “This has been one of the most wonderful events that we have had in the county this year,” said one of the organizers.
The celebration also featured many vendors that served a variety of foods and services. Budweiser, Esplendor Resort at Rio Rico, Wildcat Silver, Kory Mercantile, Horne Ford, Mas Melons Produce, State Farm Insurance/Danielle Sanchez, UniSource Energy Services, Nogales Property Management, Sheriff Tony Estrada, Los Bebechones, Perfect Harvest Produce, RCF Produce, La Roca Restaurant, Villa’s Market and Eddie Rosas sponsored the event. Organizers included the Cultural Arts Committee, Mexican Consulate, City of Nogales, Border Eco Magazine, Nogales International, Nogales Unified School District and the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors.
